LACEA Labor
The research group on labor market economics functions as a collaborative initiative with the Labor Network of the Latin American and Caribbean Economic Association (LACEA). Our core mission is to deepen understanding and specialized expertise on labor markets, employment dynamics, and labor policies throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.
In today’s complex economic landscape, stakeholders across the spectrum—from policymakers and employers to workers and labor organizations—require robust evidence on the impacts of labor regulations, skill development programs, technological change and employment initiatives on both economic performance and social equity. Rigorous evaluation of labor market interventions enables evidence-based refinements to policy design and implementation, fostering labor markets that balance efficiency with inclusivity. This research serves as a critical public good, providing justification for strategic investments and guiding effective resource allocation.
The research group pursues three interconnected objectives: developing innovative methodologies for labor market analysis, strengthening research capabilities within the region, and cultivating stronger pathways between academic research and practical policy formulation across Latin America and the Caribbean. By bridging theoretical insights with practical applications, we aim to contribute meaningfully to the development of labor markets that support sustainable economic growth and improved livelihoods.
